Over the years Kojima Productions’ Fox Engine-powered पीटी डेमो has become somewhat of a legend in the gaming space due to Konami firing Kojima, canceling the मूक पहाड़ियाँ collaboration between Kojima and Hollywood director Guilermo del Toro, and then eventually removing the demo from the PlayStation Store in hopes of it disappearing forever. However, some industrious gamers have been attempting to pick apart the game files and examine some of the inner workings of the demo.
YouTuber लांस मैकडॉनल्ड्स did an 11 minute walkthrough video of what the areas outside of the demo play space look like by messing around with some of mechanics under the hood in order to bypass the fail-safe and explore the streets of Silent Hill. You can check out the video below.
Most interesting is that switching the map files so that you end up on the street instead of the endless looping hallway resulted in the player-character falling through the floor and clipping through the geometry, which resulted in Lisa appearing and killing the player to reset the demo.
To bypass this fail-safe a no clipping mode was enabled so they could float over the geometry and explore the rest of the city, beyond where the demo ended.
We see some apartment buildings, some less-than-detailed cars in a slightly junky parking lot, and a few miscellaneous pieces of junk littering the street.
Some previous hacks from months ago revealed a few other tricks being utilized in the game, such as the fact that you’re always being followed, as detailed in a video by एसवीजी from back in September, 2019.
It’s a shame we don’t get to see what the rest of the game could have been like. While Kojima may be considered a pretentious hack by some, there’s no doubt that combining Guillermo del Toro’s creature designs with Kojima Productions’ photorealistic rendering via the Fox Engine could have produced one of the scariest video games to date in मूक पहाड़ियाँ. Unfortunately we’ll never see it come to fruition and so all we can do now is watch these videos of people hacking the deprecated demo.
