NVYVE Studios announced that Hypergun is set to launch this summer for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. The neon, rogue-lite shooter actually incorporates the rogue sub-genre into the plot itself. Unlike other games out there that just throw you into procedurally generated levels, the whole point behind Hypergun is that you need these procedurally generated levels in order to create the ultimate procedurally generated weapon as a means of stopping an alien invasion.

In the year 2038, Earth is being invaded by a menacing alien species. At DevTech a group of researchers have decided to develop the prototype for the ultimate Hypergun in order to stop the aliens. The Hypergun is made up of various parts and pieces optimized to completely destroy the aliens. In order for the gun to be assembled it requires data and synthetic parts.

Intern Dewey Owens decides one day to build the gun himself by booting up the simulator and blasting through the procedurally generated levels in order to find all of the best parts to turn the Hypergun into a reality. This is where players come into the fray, controlling Dewey and gathering the parts from across the simulation in order to build the ultimate weapon. You can see what the gameplay is like with the gameplay trailer below, which highlights the fast-paced, first-person shooter action featured in Hypergun.

The game isn’t just about killing aliens in randomly generated levels, though. You’ll also have to use the Hypergun to solve puzzles and complete platforming challenges. Along the way you’ll need to collect more than 150 weapon modules in order to upgrade and modify the Hypergun’s abilities.

You’ll fight simulated alien hordes, bosses, and up to 40 different character abilities to help aid you along the way.

I don’t know how well the rogue-like elements will appeal to people, but the concept of collecting and building a weapon in order to find the right combination to obliterate alien invaders seems like a cool element to build a game around. Whether or not it’s as fun as the trailer is attempting to depict it remains to be seen, but at least it’s not another Battle Royale game, and at least it’s not another cookie-cutter जंग clone, and at least it’s not another modern-military ड्यूटी के कॉल चुराना।
