Firaxis royally screwed up with their Korean leader for सभ्यता VI: उठो और पतन, catching great ire and consternation from actual Koreans. The studio had a far less harsh backlash with the recent unveiling of Chandragupta Maurya as the second major leader of India next to Mahatmas Ghandi.

There was a lengthy press release and accompanying minute and a half long video trailer that explains Maurya’s role in reshaping India into a powerful nation. They basically explain that he gains bonuses for being a warrior monk, so opposite of Ghandi you’ll prosper when you’re slightly more diplomatically aggressive as opposed to being passive.

For combat purposes, you’ll have a melee strength bonus and a movement bonus, along with the ability to utilize military training and gain advantages during the opening turns of a war with a neighboring nation.

Firaxis seemed to actually respect the nation this time around, seemingly mirroring Chandragupta’s design on Ajay Devgan… if Ajay had longer hair and a darker complexion.

The comment section was fairly upbeat about the inclusion of Chandragupta and his chiseled abs and manly appearance. Firaxis seems keen on making the men look like men (and they don’t seem shy about making them attractive either), but they have a tendency of making the women as unattractive as possible.

A lot of South Koreans said that what Firaxis did to Queen Seondeok was unforgivable, and that they would not be playing the game anymore or purchasing the expansion. We’ll see how true that is when सभ्यता VI: उठो और पतन expansion pack goes live for PC gamers starting February 8th, 2018.
